Meet Author Zoe Ferraris at the Campbell Library
When: Wednesday, August 17, 2011 - 7:00 PM Where: Campbell Library Zoe Ferraris moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of the first Gulf War. She lived in a conservative neighborhood with her then-husband and his Saudi-Palestinian Bedouin family. This experience served as the inspiration for segments of her novels. Her first novel, Finding Nouf won the LA Times Book Award for First Fiction. Her second novel, City of Veils, has been chosen as the Best of 2010 by the UK Guardian, the SF Chronicle, and the Sun Sentinel. She received her MFA from Columbia and currently lives in San Francisco. Check out Finding Nouf and City of Veils from the library. Then, on August 17 at 7 p.m., meet Zoe Ferraris at the Campbell Library. She will discuss her novels and answer questions from the audience. This special free event will be held in the Community Room, on the lower level of the Campbell Library. .

Mussadi, Morris lead Warriors into CCS girls softball playoffs
Every team in sports wants to end the year with a win, and with Lujane Mussadi in the circle for the Westmont girls softball team, there's a good chance of that happening for the Warriors this spring. Mussadi tossed 20 games for the Warriors and won 17. She finished the regular season with 17 complete games and 10 shutouts. She also hit .360 (27 for 75) with a pair of home runs.

It was important for the Westmont baseball team to finish the league season with a couple of wins last week--not because of the standings in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, but because the Warriors still needed to secure a spot in the Central Coast Section playoffs. And that's just what they did.

The City Manager has released his recommended Budget Correction Strategy (64kb pdf) with more than 130 specific budget adjustments. The City Council will discuss the Strategy at a study session on May 4 and the FY 11 budget will be formally introduced on June 15.

Fiscal Challenge Update
On February 22, 2010, an update on the current budget and projections for the next five years were presented to the City Council. Ongoing budget deficits of between $2-3 million are anticipated in each of the out years. This is not a sustainable situation and staff is currently working on developing a budget correction strategy. A process for moving forward was outlined on the 22nd as noted in the report below. The process will include gathering input from Council, the community and staff. We hope you will be part of the process as there could be significant impacts to the community.
